Welcome to the HAI Southern California Workshoppers List, or simply SoCal.

Here are a few FAQs about the list. There are many important instructions that will assist you in obtaining the best results in using the list. Please read them and save this for future reference.

PURPOSE OF LIST: The Southern California Workshoppers List was created to help build and support the HAI community in Southern California. However, it is open to any participant who has completed a HAI Level 1 workshop anywhere in the world.

USING THE LIST: In trying to extend "the room of love" to the Internet, think of the most appropriate posts to this lists as those you might make during a large group share or in logistical announcements.

By sharing from your heart, you will help to create intimacy, even in this two-dimensional form. We encourage you to use "I" statements as you share your thoughts and feelings about subjects such as love, gratitude, self-esteem, rewarding experiences, fears or other personal topics.

We also encourage you to post requests or announcements about gender balance for upcoming workshops, rides, housing or items for sale or wanted. Also appropriate are "transitions" such as unions, marriages, divorces, separations; births deaths, moving out of or into the area, and name changes.

Generally speaking, jokes, chain letters, petitions or other messages without your personal involvement are "off-topic."

SUBJECT:
Use a *descriptive* subject heading so that readers will be able to decide quickly whether the message is of interest to them. For example: "Need help moving Saturday" is more effective than "Help!"

Please stick with subjects that support intimacy among subscribers and help to build and support the Socal community, as described above under "Using the List." What follows are some examples of good Subjects:
Subject: What I learned about self-love at Level 2
Subject: Need female gender balance for Level 3
Subject: Why it is hard for me to accept love
Subject: Thanks for your support Barb
Subject: Letting go of judgments
Subject: PC with Pentium II 300 MHz for sale
Subject: San Pedro: have house to share
Subject: I want a cuddle buddy

MESSAGES:
Please refrain from using stylized text such as proportional fonts or html messages. It is useful only if everybody has the same e-mail program. Since there are MACs and PCs and Suns and Moons and each has a number of e-mail programs, many do not handle styled text well.

CONFIDENTIALITY:
This mailing list conforms to HAI standards of confidentiality. Mostly that means no discussion of workshop exercises, and of course, no mention of who else attended the workshop. You may self-disclose that you participated in a particular event, but even describing or characterizing someone else's share at that event violates confidentiality.

Additionally, we would like to keep the name of the list confidential, within the HAI community. Keeping a low profile on the name of the list helps to avoid spam and other unsolicited bulk e-mail. When you want to send a message to AND to one or more additional addresses, please use one of the following procedures: 1) send the message to in a message separate from a message sent to the other addressees 2) put the address in the Bcc: field (rather than the To: or the Cc: fields), if your e-mail program has one.

VIRUSES:
If you hear about a virus warning or something else that appears to be "urgent," please send it to the list owner rather than posting it to the list. People well versed in this area will then check out the warning.

MESSAGE LENGTH:
Don't send a message of more than 40,000 characters. It will bounce.

ATTACHMENTS:
Don't send attachments. They will be converted to text, and be rendered unreadable. This includes pictures, video or music attachments. Because of this feature, the list is not capable of forwarding a virus to your machine.

CLOSED LIST:
The list is closed, which means that the only people who can post to it are those who have subscribed and who are sending a message from the address that is subscribed. This means if you send a message from a different address, it will bounce. These messages, along with any non-member submissions (including spam) are directed only to the List Manager and will not appear on the list.

DIGEST:
There is a digest form of the list for those who want to read everything sent to the list, but would rather receive it in longer bulk messages than single messages as they are posted. The disadvantage of subscribing to the Digest version of the list is that receipt of messages is delayed (currently up to 24 hours). To subscribe to the Digest, please see SUBSCRIBE below.

WHO IS IN CHARGE:
(or where does the buck stop?) The List Manager, , coordinates the logistics of maintaining this list. The HAI Internet Team sets the general policies of the regional mailing lists, but as much as possible, delegates this authority to the List Manager, who then works hand-in-hand with subscribers of the list to modify operations as they see fit. So, if you have any questions or suggestions about the usage or operation of this list, please forward them to the List Manager, for response.

The HAI Internet Team also manages the HAI web site. If you think you might be interested in membership in the Internet Team (open to all workshoppers), or you may simply be available for special website-related projects, please send a message to webmaster@hai.org.

Congratulations! You've made it to the end of this message. Why not make your first post and introduce yourself and let us know something about you. Remember you are at choice and there are no obligations except to confidentiality.

Thanks for joining Socal.
